In and Around Jerusalem

Scribal Arts

Over the last few months Julie and her friend Christiana have been trying to learn the art of Hebrew calligraphy. Traditionally, texts are written using a quill and ink on parchment made from kosher animal skin. In keeping with the "foul/fowl" theme of this page (remember the kaparot?!), we have posted some photos of the process of cleaning the feathers and cutting them into a pen nib.
